INSTRUCTIONS

These questions ask about your sexual feelings and responses during the past four weeks.

Please answer the following questions as honestly and clearly as possible. Your responses will be kept completely confidential. In answering these questions, the following definitions apply:

Sexual activity can include caressing, foreplay, masturbation, and vaginal intercourse.

Sexual intercourse is defined as penile penetration (entry) of the vagina.

Sexual stimulation includes situations like foreplay with a partner, self-stimulation (masturbation), or sexual fantasy.

Sexual desire or interest is a feeling that includes wanting to have a sexual experience, feeling receptive to a partner’s sexual initiation, and thinking or fantasizing about having sex.

Interpretation of the Test

The meaning of the test is specific to each woman’s health, personality, and relationship goals. A conversation with a physician or counselor (sex or family therapist) deepens and facilitates the interpretation of the test.

Still, some general ranges are seen in groups of women, and scientific references could be helpful.

Ranges

  • A woman with a total score of less than 26 is at risk for sexual dysfunction.
  • She is not considered to be suffering from sexual dysfunction unless she is psychologically distressed about her symptoms.
  • Most women distressed (suffer sexual dysfunction) show an average total score of 20.
  • Most women reporting great sex show an average total score of 30
  • By metanalysis of multiple studies, the average improvement in the total FSFI score after treatment with a variety of therapies is as follows:
